How to use Sakai at Brock University

How to use Sakai. Sakai is Brock University’s secure, centralized,
on-line Learning Management System, or LMS, and is a place where many of the courses you
take will have a dedicated online space. Depending on the teaching styles of your instructors,
you may find that you’ll use Sakai to download course documents like outlines or lecture
notes; make your submissions to online tests or assignments; chat with your classmates
or instructor; or even watch videos as part of your course work. As a student, you will be able to log in to
Sakai after you have registered for your courses. You can access Sakai directly at lms.brocku.ca,
or by finding Isaak/Sakai under the menu at the top of most Brock University web pages. Once you’re logged in to Sakai, you will be
able to access online course materials and discussion for courses that you are registered
for. This could include notes and slides from your
lectures, class discussion and group work. You may also be required to submit your assignments
through Sakai for your classes. Your courses for the current term should appear
at the top of the page, but if you don’t see a link for one of your courses, you can click
on the Sites button in the top right. Please note – not all Brock courses will use
Sakai. Once you’ve clicked on the link for one of
your courses, you will be brought to that course’s site. There are a number of tools that your instructor
may use on the course site. These may include announcements – where your
instructor can leave general information for the whole class; messages – where you can
communicate directly with your instructor; grade book – where you can normally find scores
for all your assignments, tests and participation; assignments – where you can submit course
work digitally; and much more. If you’re having any issues with Isaak, you
can visit the Isaak Frequently Asked Questions page, wiki, or contact the ITS Help Desk for
assistance.
